Meet Our Pastor:
Rev. Kyle Reaka
Reverend Kyle Reaka began his ministry at Evangelical United Church of Christ in October 2024 and was officially installed as Senior Pastor on April 27, 2025. He brings a deep love for people, a passion for preaching, and a commitment to building a church that is radically welcoming, justice-centered, and grounded in grace.
Formative Years & Education
Kyle grew up in Southern Illinois in a deeply ecumenical family, shaped by American Baptist, United Methodist, Roman Catholic, and UCC influences. He is deeply at home in the United Church of Christ, which embodies the spirit of ecumenism and the ongoing call to unity in the Body of Christ. Kyle was ordained to ministry in the UCC in July 2023.
He graduated summa cum laude from Murray State University in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and a minor in Spanish. During undergrad, he studied abroad in Segovia, Spain. He later earned his Master of Divinity from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in 2019, along with a certificate in Black Church Studies. His time in seminary also included study abroad in Matanzas, Cuba. In 2019, he was named a Johnson Scholar by the United Church of Christ in recognition of his academic excellence and potential for ministry.
A Journey in Ministry
Kyle has served in a variety of ministry settings across Kentucky, Missouri, and New Jersey. He also spent two seasons with A Christian Ministry in the National Parks, leading worship and providing pastoral care in the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. Along the way, he's also worked as a mystery shopper, a substitute Spanish teacher, and more —broadening his understanding of the human experience and the sacredness found in everyday life.
A passionate advocate for social justice, Kyle is especially committed to full LGBTQ inclusion in the life and leadership of the church. He enjoys cultivating unique, contemplative, and meaningful worship services, and crafting sermons that blend theological depth with accessible, heartfelt messages — messages that inspire reflection, connection, and faithful action.
“Church should be a place where we can breathe deeply, be fully ourselves, and encounter the sacred in one another. Whether you’re full of faith, full of questions, or somewhere in between — you are welcome here. My hope is that this church can be a spiritual home for you, just as it has been for me.”
Outside of the Sanctuary
In his free time, Kyle enjoys playing video games, spending time with his family (especially his niece and nephew) and visiting his best friends in Louisville. He believes joy, wonder, and friendship are sacred gifts.
Kyle is thrilled to be part of the vibrant and welcoming community at Evangelical UCC, where so many exciting and Spirit-filled things are unfolding.
